Complete answer: Conditions in Germany and Eastern Europe were unstable after World War 1. In the next several years, the Eastern Europe map was redrawn many times. The German economy was devastated by war reparations, civil strife, depression, and great unemployment. Throughout the 1920s, there was continued street violence between the left and the right. Conditions in Europe have been awful.
More than 8.5 million deaths, reparations were needed badly, and political instability culminated in a pandemic spread across Europe, with European governments crumbling, and colonies searching for more freedom.
The war physically destroyed most of northern and eastern France. The economy of Germany was broken and Britain was almost bankrupt.
