Pedologist (plural pedologists) –
A researcher who studies the source, structure and distribution of soils and the components from which soils are produced. A researcher who specializes in pedology. A scientist who studies soil as a natural systems component.
A pedologist is anyone who is a community of natural bodies occupying the unconsolidated portion of the earth’s surface and having physical and chemical properties due to the combined effect of climate and living organisms, as changed by topography and time, on parent material, by virtue of advanced higher education, training and experience with soils.
The pedologist may -
- Identification of soils on the landscape as natural units,
- Distinguish soil types and landscape units, then document their location on aerial or other relevant base map images,
- Describe and understand their characteristics and properties, their limits for different land uses, and promote their wise use.
- Pedology is one of soil science's major divisions, dealing with soil formation, description, and classification. Both pedologists, therefore, are soil scientists.
