Hint:There are three types of fractions proper fraction, improper fraction and mixed fraction. We can use either an improper fraction or a mixed fraction to show the same amount. Conversion of improper fraction to mixed number or fraction can be done by dividing the numerator by denominator and further writing the remainder above the denominator.
Complete step by step answer:
For the conversion of \[\dfrac{{21}}{4}\]to a mixed number or fraction the first thing that has to be done is to set up the long division format and dividing the numerator by denominator. While dividing 21 by 4 the digit in the quotient has to be placed on top of the division symbol. Now the quotient is 5 and divisor is 4.
Now multiply the newest quotient digit 5 by the divisor 4 we have 20. As the process of division 20 from 21 will be subtracted. The result of division of \[\dfrac{{21}}{4}\] is 5 with a remainder of 1.After dividing the numerator by the denominator the answer will be in the form of the whole number. Then the remainder has to be written above the denominator.
Hence the mixed number for \[\dfrac{{21}}{4}\] is \[5\dfrac{1}{4}\].
Note: It should be made sure that the remainder has to be written above the denominator. Conversion will be exactly the same as the process of division. Improper fractions when divided never give the remainder as zero; hence any how a remainder is obtained. Hence the quotient should be written outside, remainder at the top and divisor in the denominator.
