Hint: Maharshi Kanada gave the idea that matter consists of indivisible units and can not be divided further into smaller particles. The atom is the smallest particle that can not be destroyed and retains its original form under all situations.
Complete Solution :
Maharshi Kanada explained the atomic theory of matter. He propounded atomic theory in the lines of the concept of atman (soul) and moksha (liberation from the cycle of birth and death). He applied logic and realism to explain his theory.
He gave the idea that matter consists of indivisible units called atoms which is the smallest particle that can not be destroyed and retains in its original form under all situations.
The Kanad’s atomic theory has points as -
1. Everything can be subdivided.
2. The sub-division after time results in the creation of parmanu (atoms) which are the smallest things.
3. Parmanu is indivisible and it can not be further divided. So, everything can-not be subdivided.
4. The atom is eternal. This means it is indestructible.
5. It is the basis for all material science.
6. It is invisible to the naked eye.
7. Parmanu which is today known as an atom can have two states - state of motion and absolute rest.
Note: Kanad was the founder of Vaisheshika. It is a school of Vedic philosophy. This school explained the creation and existence of the universe by proposing an atomistic theory. Maharshi Kanada discovered atomic theory 2600 years ago which Dalton gave after many years.
