Hint: The cell wall acts as the protective cornering of the cell and is found only in the plant cells. It is absent in the animal cells. They undergo the process of swelling and shrinkage when kept in different types of solutions.

When a cell is placed in a solution containing less concentration of the solution then the solutes from the solution tend to travel inside the cell. This leads to the swelling of the cell. The cell wall applies a force in the opposite direction to prevent the cell from bursting. This happens in normal conditions but when the cells undergo freezing or come in contact with the enzymes then the cell wall becomes weak and will easily degrade or break resulting in the bursting of the cell wall. The change in pH will also result in cell bursting and also if the cell absorbs too much water then it will swell abruptly and causes a change in rigidity leading to the bursting of the cell wall. Cell bursting results in the losing of the cell shape and structure and all components of the cells will be exposed and will be easily prone to infection.

-The cell wall is made up of two layers: a primary cell wall and a middle lamella.

-Hypertonic-Hyper means greater than. The number of solute particles are greater in hypertonic solution than normally present in a cell. Here the water moves out of the cell resulting in the shrinkage of the cell.
-Isotonic – Iso means the same. The number of solute molecules in isotonic solution are the same as present in the cell. Here no movement of water is observed and the cell will remain the same.
