The Himalayas have had a profound significance for the people of South Asia for thousands of years. Because of the literature, religious reflection, and mythologies. The Himalayas are the great mountain system formed as a barrier between Tibet's plateau towards the north of alluvial plains and the Indian subcontinent to the south.

Indians coined the name Himalaya from the Sanskrit word hima ("snow") and Alaya ("abode") and the Himalayan Mountain has offered great attractions and challenges for mountaineers around the world.
Himalayas has three parallel ranges known as Greater Himalayas, Lesser Himalayas and Outer Himalayas.
Siwalik Range, also known as Siwalik Hills or Outer Himalayas, was also spelled Shiwalik, the northern Indian subcontinent's sub-Himalayan range. It stretches west-northwestward from the Tista River in the state of Sikkim, northeastern India, through Nepal, through northwestern India, and into northern Pakistan for more than 1,000 miles (1,600 km).

The Himalayas stretches itself uninterruptedly about 1550 miles, 2500 km from west to east, between Nanga Parbat of 26660 feet that is 8126 meters. The high peaks of mountains rise into the zone of perpetual snow.

The outer Himalayas comprises the Siwalik range and structured valleys, which is a border to the south of the Himalayan mountain system.
The range has an average elevation of 3,000 to 4,000 feet (900 to 1,200 meters), although it is just 10 miles (16 km) wide in places.
