The city has many wonderful monuments such as Anand Mahal, Jumma Masjid, Gol Gumbaz, Sat Manzil, Jal Manzil and many others. But out of these all Gol Gumbaz is the most famous monument which is built here. It was built in 1648 by the then ruler of Bijapur, Mohammad Adil Shah. It took almost 25 years to complete the dome. It was designed on the pattern of Indo-Islamic Architecture. It has concluded its name from the word ‘Gol-Gumbaz' which stands for a circular dome. The main aim of building this tomb was to bury people who died during his rule. It is spread around 18,000 sq. feet in area and the beauty of this tomb is that it doesn’t have any pillars placed to support the tomb but still, it stands strongly since 1656.
