Beti Bachao Beti Padhao started in?
Answer: 22nd January 2015
Explanation:
Beti Bachao Beti Padhao is a significant government initiative that was launched on 22nd January 2015 by Prime Minister Narendra Modi in Panipat, Haryana. This date marks the official beginning of one of India's most important campaigns aimed at addressing gender inequality and promoting the welfare of the girl child.
The scheme was launched as a joint initiative of three ministries - the Ministry of Women and Child Development, Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, and Ministry of Human Resource Development (now Ministry of Education). The choice of Panipat as the launch location was strategic, as Haryana had one of the lowest child sex ratios in the country at that time.
The primary objectives of this campaign include preventing gender-biased sex selection, ensuring survival and protection of the girl child, and ensuring education and participation of the girl child. The scheme addresses the declining Child Sex Ratio (CSR) and related issues of empowerment of women over a life-cycle continuum.
Initially, the scheme was implemented in 100 selected districts across the country where the Child Sex Ratio was critically low. The selection was based on Census 2011 data, focusing on districts with CSR below the national average. The campaign uses multi-sectoral action in 161 gender critical districts with low Child Sex Ratio, covering all states and union territories.
Since its launch in 2015, the scheme has shown positive results with improvements in sex ratio at birth in many districts. The campaign has also helped in creating awareness about the importance of girl child education and women empowerment through various awareness programs, community mobilization activities, and strict enforcement of laws related to gender discrimination.
