Article 51A (Part IV-A) of the Constitution enshrines the Basic Duties of the people of India. In compliance with Article 29(1) of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, the article was added by means of the 42nd Amendment of 1976 to the Indian Constitution. Although fundamental duties in the courts are unenforceable, they are frequently used in the interpretation of constitutional and other issues.
Fundamental duties - Article 51(A) refers to these Fundamental Duties and has 11 Fundamental Duties which are expected to be performed by citizens (there were 10 earlier and 11 later added by the 86th amendment).
