$ KE = \dfrac{1}{2}m{v^2} $
where K.E is the Kinetic energy, m is mass of object and v is the velocity of object.

Potential energy associated with height is also known as Gravitational potential energy. Potential energy can have negative signs because it is associated with the position of the object. A typical unit for both Kinetic Energy and Potential Energy is Joule.
