Hint: The compound of any molecule is very important to determine. On the basis of name, we can keep the chemicals in separate bottles in laboratories, in-home, or anywhere else. To name the molecules a special new body of scientists was made named the International Union of Pure and Applied Chemistry ( I.U.P.A.C ).
Complete answer:
We have different rules to name different organic, inorganic molecules. There is a separate class of molecules that were named they were ionic compounds.
Ionic compounds are those compounds that have ionic bonds in them. The most common ionic compound used in our day-to-day life is Sodium Chloride or common salt or table salt. Having a sodium atom which is mono positive and chloride is mono negative in nature.
The names of above-mentioned ionic compounds are as follows: -
is Lithium Chloride. Both atoms are mono charged, i.e., mono positive ( Lithium ) and mono negative ( Chloride ).
is Barium Oxide. Both atoms are dia charged, i.e., diapositive ( Barium ) and dia negative ( Oxygen or also called oxide ion ).
is Sodium azide here one atom is mono positive ( Sodium ) and tri negative ( Azide ion represented as ).
is Lead (II) sulfate or lead sulfate; here both atoms are dia charged i.e., diapositive ( Lead ) and dia negative ( Sulfate ion ).
Note:
While naming the ionic compounds the main and most important rule to remember is that the name of cation is named first and then the name of anion is given. Cations are the positively charged element or atoms whereas anions are the negatively charged element or atoms. It may be noted that we can also mention the oxidation state of the cations if required, as we did in Lead (II) sulfate.
