Hint: Soil erosion is a natural process. It is a form of soil degradation in which the upper layer of soil is displaced.
Methods of prevention are: Vegetation, by mulches, matting of soil, building retaining walls and many more.
Complete answer:
In this question we have asked the methods of prevention or reduction of soil erosion. So, first of all, we will learn about soil erosion. As we already mentioned Soil erosion is a natural process. It is a form of soil degradation in which the upper layer of soil is displaced.
The method of prevention are follows:
> Vegetation: Vegetation plays an important role in water and soil erosion control. Vegetation means the plant life of a region or we can say vegetations is a ground cover provided by plants. The root of these plants will hold the soil and prevent soil erosion.
> Applying mulches: A mulch is a layer of material applied to the surface of soil. It improves the holding capacity and quality of the soil.
> Matting the soil: The installation of a protective covering like blanket over the soil to prevent soil erosion and for growth of small plants.
> Building walls: when it rains the surface of soil flows with the water, but when we build a wall around the area the soil will not flow with water.
> Turning the slope Area into flat- when it rains the surface of soil runs down with water but we can prevent it by flattening the surface.
> Bunding: It is the same as forming retaining walls.
> Reduce watering: Erosion happens much more quickly than natural forces of water over the soil.
> Making windbreakers- Windbreakers prevent erosion of soil by speedy wind.
Note: There are many more ways for prevention of soil erosion like by geotextiles and by crop rotation, excessive grazing, prevention of deforestation, plantation of trees and plants. We can also add those points in the answer.
