Hint: Before answering this question, we should know that in this reaction oxidation is happening, Firstly, let’s understand what is the meaning of oxidation. Oxidation is the gain of oxygen and combustion is majorly involved here because it is also when some element is reacted with the oxygen, it is included in the combustion reactions.
Complete answer:
In old times, the reactions in which an element reacts with oxygen were used to describe the term “Oxidation”. The term oxidation was first used by Antoine Lavoisier to highlight a substance’s reaction with oxygen. But later with time, it came forward that the product gives away its electrons while being oxidized and it was generally termed as oxidation to include all those reactions in which the substance loses electrons even if oxygen is not involved.
For example, iron metal is oxidized and forms an iron oxide which is known as rust. It reduces oxygen. Production of magnesium oxide by the reaction of magnesium and oxygen is also another example of oxidation where an element is reacting with oxygen. The electrons are passed in any chemical reaction in oxidation. The substances that release electrons are oxidized.
Some examples of oxidation reactions are-
$2Mg+{{O}_{2}}\to 2MgO$
$C{{H}_{4}}+2{{O}_{2}}\to C{{O}_{2}}+2{{H}_{2}}O$
${{C}_{2}}{{H}_{5}}OH+3{{O}_{2}}\to 2C{{O}_{2}}+3{{H}_{2}}O$
Note:
The combustion of substances is happening here. The chemical reaction between the two substances and oxygen is involved in it with the production of heat and light is known as combustion. Combustion reactions are the reactions in which an element is reacting with oxygen and releases energy in the form of heat and light.
