i) Monomer: The word monomer gives the meaning of itself as mono means one and mer means unit. The monomers are the primary building blocks of the large-sized polymers. The monomers are identical units that repeat themselves in a polymer that bonds covalently with each other for the formation of polymers.
ii) Polymers: The word polymer gives the meaning itself where Poly means many and mer means unit. A polymer consists of a large molecule or a macromolecule which has many subunits of monomers.
iii) Macromolecules: The macro means the large which gives us the meaning of macromolecules as large molecules. Macromolecules are made up of many polymers. Some examples of monomers are carbohydrates, lipids, proteins, and nucleic acids. The carbohydrates macromolecules are composed of small monomer units such as carbon, oxygen, and hydrogen.
