Hint: In order to understand about like and unlike parallel forces, we need to know about force. Force is the external agent when it acts on anybody that has the capability to change the state of motion of the body, it can move the body which is at rest when applied sufficiently and similarly it can bring a moving body at rest if applied in the right direction. Now we will discuss about like and unlike parallel forces.
Complete answer:
When two forces are acting on a body and they are acting in the same direction no matter what the magnitudes they have, as long as they are acting in the same direction on a body and also parallel to each other, this pair of forces are known as parallel forces.
Similarly, when two forces are acting on a body and they are acting in the opposite direction no matter what the magnitudes they have, as long as they are acting in opposite direction on a body and also parallel to each other, this pair of forces are known as unlike parallel forces.
Hence, like forces are in the same direction and parallel to each other whereas unlike forces are opposite in direction and parallel to each other.
Note: It should be remembered that, force is a vector quantity it requires both magnitude and as well as direction for its existence and more generally force is defined as the product of mass and acceleration of the body, the SI unit of force is known as Newton since the concept of force was first introduced by scientist Sir Isaac Newton.
