Their land life is dominating but they need water in order to reproduce, that is their fertilisation occurs in water. Hence, these are known as the amphibians of the plant kingdom. There are certain adaptations that are related to land habitat are compact plant structure, retention of the zygote in archegonium and embryo formation. Absence of the vascular system, true roots and chemotactic movement of sperm is water adaptations.
