How are binary fission and mitosis similar?
Answer

Hint: Both binary fission and mitosis are a type of cell division but these both processes take place in different organisms. The number of chromosomes remains the same.
Complete answer:
1)Mostly the eukaryotic organisms undergo cell division by the process of mitosis that helps in the division of the DNA, whereas small organisms like microbes which include bacteria and other organisms undergo cell division through the process of binary fission.
2)Both mitosis and binary fission are similar because they both are involved in the division of cells but in mitosis, cell division helps only in the growth of the organism or replacement of cells but binary fission is not only the growth of the organism but it is the process by which the organism reproduces and produces more bacteria.
3)Both mitosis and binary fission involves copying of DNA. The entire process of how the DNA is copied is also nearly similar in both mitosis and binary fission. Both involve replication and separation of chromosomes and cytokinesis that is the division of the cytoplasm.
Note: Although mitosis shows many similarities to that of binary fission they also show many differences. For example, the separation of DNA and replication of DNA are two different processes that take place simultaneously in binary fission whereas, in the case of mitosis, the DNA separation occurs in the M phase, whereas the replication of DNA occurs in the S phase of the cell cycle. The M phase happens before the S phase of the cell cycle.
