Neurons are the structural and functional unit of the nerve cell. They carry information throughout the body. The information is in the form of electrochemical signals. By these signals, the coordination between the body and nervous system takes place.

The neurons have three distinct parts- cell body, Axon and Dendrites.
Cell body or soma- The cell body contains the nucleus.
Axons- these are fine thread-like projections from the soma. It carries impulses from the stoma and transmits impulses to the other neuron to the other neuron.
Dendrite- These are fine projections which arise from soma. They receive impulse from the axon of another neuron and transfer it to soma.

Similarity between Axons and dendrites-

The axon transmits impulses to the dendrites of the other neuron through synapse. It is a structure that allows axon to transmit signals to the dendrites. It works by the secretion of neurotransmitter acetylcholine.

Note: Axons and dendrites differ widely. Mostly a single axon is present per nerve cell whereas a nerve cell can contain more than hundred dendrites. Axons transmit signals away from the neuron whereas dendrites carry signals towards the nerve cell.
