Hint: Territorial Army is the second line of defence after the official regular army. Unlike the regular army, the territorial army serves for a few months yearly so it is a part-time commitment. It consists of Infantry Battalions, Ecological Task Force, General Hospital Units, Home and Hearth Infantry, Air Defence Artillery, Railway Industrial Units, and such. The territorial army in India was first sanctioned through Indian Territorial Act of 1920 and consisted of two wings— The Auxiliary Force for Europeans and Anglo-Indians and The Indian Territorial Force for Indian Volunteers. Post-Independence, the Territorial Army Act was passed in 1948 and it was formally inaugurated the Territorial Army by the first Indian Governor General Shri C Rajagopalachari on October 9, 1949.
