Hint: As the plants do not have a well-organized system they perform the process of transportation of material through different methods like diffusion, osmosis facilitated diffusion and active transport.
Complete answer:
-Active transport is the transport of solute linked with some metabolic reaction involving the use of energy. The molecules or ions transported in active transport across a protoplasmic membrane against the concentration gradient. It is assumed that a specialized protoplasmic membrane carrier is involved in solute transport across membranes.
-Diffusion is defined as the movement of molecules are ions of a solute or a solvent from the region of its higher concentration to that of its lower concentration. These molecules or ions are in high partial pressure when concentrated. Thus, the molecules diffuse out from the region of high partial pressure to the region of low partial pressure due to their inherent kinetic energy. The direction of diffusion of one substance is independent of the direction in which the other substance is diffusing.
-Osmosis is an important physical process that helps in the movement of water in the living system as well as in the environment. It can be defined as the net diffusion of water molecules from a dilute solution to the concentrated solution when the two are separated through a semipermeable membrane. -Basically, osmosis involves the diffusion of solvent across a semipermeable membrane.
So, it can be said that active transport involves expenditure of energy while osmosis and diffusion do not require energy as they occur along the concentration gradient.
Note: The difference between diffusion and osmosis is that diffusion can occur in any medium and the particle involved may be solid liquid or gas whereas in mosses the medium is only liquid and the solvent molecules move from one place to another.
