Hint: To solve this question first we know that in the division method we will see the relation between the dividend, divisor, quotient and remainder. The number which we can divide is a dividend. The number by which we divide another number is called the divisor. The result obtained is called the quotient. The number left over is called the remainder.

Complete step-by-step answer:
As we know, the relation between the dividend, divisor, quotient and remainder as shown below.
Dividend = divisor x quotient + remainder
Let the number be N, and quotient be n
Since when we divided a certain number by 48, we get a remainder 31,
We have N = 48(n) + 31 where 'n' is the quotient got by dividing number by 48
We can write
$N = 24 \times 2 \times n + 31$
=$24 \times (2n) \times 24 + 7$
=$24(2n + 1) + 7$
So, when we divide N by 24, remainder left is 7
Therefore option (B) is the correct answer.

Note:In every division process, there are two necessary parts. One is divisor and the other is a dividend, the number or value or amount that we divide by divisor is known as a dividend. For example, if we have to distribute 20 toys among 10 children, then we need to divide the 20 toys by 10, which will result in 2 toys for each child. Hence, the value 20 is the dividend here. while the number which divides the dividend is known as a divisor
