Hint – In this question use the concept that discount is applicable on the amount of purchase so first apply the least discount and calculate its value, then subtract this discount value from the original value then apply higher discount on the resultant which we got in the previous case and calculate this discounted value (this is the basis of the discounts if multiple discount is applicable) so use these concepts to reach the solution of the question.

Complete step-by-step answer:
Given data:
A hotel offers a 10% discount on food purchase during happy hours.
And a 5% over all discount on all purchases exceeding Rs. 150.
Now a customer who purchased food worth Rs. 190 during the happy hours we have to calculate a net percentage discount offered to a customer.
Now as he purchased the food over 150 Rs. so he got an overall discount of 5% on what he purchased.
As we know that the discount value is the product of percentage discount and the purchased value.
So the value of the (5%) discount = (5%) multiplied by 190
Therefore the discount value = $\dfrac{5}{{100}}\left( {190} \right) = 9.5$ Rs.
So the value of the food after discount becomes = 190 – 9.5 = 180.5 Rs.
As the customer purchased food during happy hours so he will get a 10% discount on the remaining value of the food (i.e. after getting 5% discount).
As we know that the discount value is the product of percentage discount and the purchased value.
So the value of the (10%) discount = (10%) multiplied by 180.5
Therefore, the discount value this time = $\dfrac{{10}}{{100}}\left( {180.5} \right) = 18.05$Rs.
So the value of the food becomes = 180.5 – 18.05 = 162.45 Rs.
So overall reduction in the price = (190 – 162.45) = 27.55 Rs.
So overall discount percentage is the ratio of the overall discount on the food to the original price of the food multiplied by 100, so we have,
Overall discounted percentage is = $\dfrac{{27.55}}{{190}} \times 100$
Now simplify this we have,
Overall discounted percentage is = $14.5$ %
So this is the required answer.
Hence option (A) is the correct answer.

Note – Whenever we face such types of questions the key concept we have to remember is that overall discount percentage is the ratio of the overall discount on the food to the original price of the food multiplied by 100, so first of all calculated the first and second discount individually then add then and then calculated the overall discount percentage as above.
