Tag Games

Tag Games

Bring some classic fun into your child's playtime with lively tag games! Here are a few variations that you can easily introduce to keep things exciting:

1. Tag With a Twist

You are an exception if you haven’t played tag in the park or roadside until sunset! This game is a chance to create those lasting memories with your kids. More than the thrill of the chase, it’s about strategy, quick thinking, and loads of laughs.

So, think of the usual game of tag, but with a fun twist — using rubber bands or bracelets! This version adds a bit of strategy and excitement that your kids will absolutely love.

Here’s how to set it up and play:

  • Start by giving each player a rubber band or bracelet. You can use different colors for fun

  • Decide who will be 'it' first. Maybe have the kids win a quick round of rock-paper-scissors to kick things off

  • The person who is 'it' runs to tag the others

  • When they successfully tag someone, they swap a rubber band or bracelet with them

  • The goal for each player is to gather as many bands or bracelets as possible

2. Freeze Tag

Freeze tag takes the traditional tag to a chilly new level. In this game, when a kid who is 'it' tags someone, the other person has to freeze in place. They remain frozen until another player tags them to thaw them out and bring them back into the game.

This outdoor game is also perfect for teaching your UKG children about teamwork, because:

  • They have to work together to unfreeze their friends

  • It encourages them to strategize and plan the best ways to rescue each other while avoiding getting tagged

3. TV Tag

TV tag is all about quick thinking and creativity. In this version, when 'it' is about to tag a kid, they can avoid being tagged by crouching and shouting out a TV show name.

But there’s a catch! Children can’t repeat a show name that's already been used in that game. This twist gets them moving and motivates them to think creatively under pressure.

Each of these tag games offers a unique way for kids to play and provides different benefits, from physical exercise to mental agility. So why not step outside and try these variations? Your little ones will be having so much fun without even realizing they’re exercising both body and mind!

Traditional Games

Traditional Games

Remember those good old days when afternoons were spent playing games in the yard with neighborhood friends? Why not pass on a legacy of joy and learning to your kids?

So, dust off those old game rules, head outside, and watch as your children make their own wonderful memories, just like you did. Here you go!

1. Capture the Flag

Capture the Flag is a thrilling game that enhances strategic thinking and teamwork. Follow these simple steps:

  • Choose a spacious area and set up two zones, each with a flag

  • Involve all your family members in the game and then divide them into two teams, ensuring they are evenly matched in terms of age and ability

  • The aim is for one team to capture the other team’s flag and bring it back to their zone without being tagged

2. Kick the Can

Kick the Can is a timeless outdoor game that has brought joy to generations of children. Find below how to set it up:

  • Simply place an empty can in an open area

  • One kid is designated as 'it' and counts while the other players hide

  • Once 'it' finishes counting, they try to find and tag the hiders

However, if a hider can kick the can before being tagged, they can free captured teammates. So, go for it if you want to teach your UKG child about agility and stealth!

3. Red Rover

No idea what Red Rover is? No worries! Here’s a detailed guide to play it!

  • Invite a group of kids to play

  • Form two equal rows as they face each other and hold hands

  • Decide which team will start as 'it'

  • This team calls out, “Red rover, red rover, send [a kid name from other team] right over!” The named player then runs and tries to break through the opposing team's linked arms

  • If the player successfully breaks through the line, they can choose one person to take back to their team. If not, they join the other team.

The game continues with players from each team taking turns.

4. Red Light, Green Light

After a round of Red Rover, why not keep the fun going with a game of Red Light, Green Light? In this game, one child plays the role of the traffic light, standing at one end of the play area with their back to the other players.

They call out “Green light” to signal players to move towards them and “Red light” to make them freeze. If any player moves on a red light, they're out. This game teaches kids patience and attention.

5. Hopscotch

Looking for another fun activity for your kids? How about setting up a game of hopscotch? It's easy to do and a great way to keep them active and entertained.

  • Draw a hopscotch grid with chalk, numbering squares from one to ten

  • Find a small stone or another small object that your kids can use as a marker

  • Have your kids take turns throwing the stone into one of the squares

  • They then hop through the grid on one foot, skipping the square with the stone

  • When they reach the end, they turn around and hop back, picking up the stone on their way

This game helps in developing better balance and coordination in young children.

6. Four Square

Four Square will challenge your kids' reflexes and motor skills. Try setting up this simple yet engaging game that can provide hours of fun for the whole family.

  • Draw a large square, divided into four smaller squares, and number them

  • Find a ball that is suitable for bouncing and hitting, such as a rubber playground ball or a tennis ball

  • Each player stands in one of the four squares, and the game begins with the player in square one bouncing the ball into another player's square

  • The other player must then hit the ball into another square, and so on

  • The goal is to react quickly to keep the ball in play and prevent it from bouncing more than once in your square

7. Monkey in the Middle

Monkey in the Middle is a hilarious game that can get everyone laughing and moving! But why do some people hesitate to be the "monkey" in this game?

Well, it might be, especially for shy kids, because they know they'll be in the spotlight, trying to intercept the ball and make those dramatic moves. But it teaches them how to interact with peers and encourages them to join in and have fun.

Hide and Seek Variations

Hide and Seek Variations

A favorite pastime for generations? Of course, Hide and seek would top the list. From the days when you played with your eyes tied down with cloth to the modern versions kids enjoy today, this game brings joy to all who play.

1. Sardines

Sardines is a fun twist on hide-and-seek where one kid hides and everyone else seeks. But here's the catch: when a seeker finds the hider, they join them in their hiding spot! The game continues until only one seeker is left.

How to Play:

  • Designate a child as the first hider

  • The rest of them count to a predetermined number (e.g., 50) while the hider finds a spot to hide

  • Once the counting is done, everyone searches for the hider

  • When a seeker finds the hider, they quietly join them in their hiding spot
