1. What are Greenhouse Gases? What are the causes of Global warming?

1. A greenhouse gas absorbs and gives out radiant energy causing the greenhouse effect. Some examples of greenhouse gases in Earth’s atmosphere are water vapour, carbon dioxide, methane, nitrous oxide, and ozone. 

2. Global warming is the phenomenon where carbon dioxide and other greenhouse gases and air pollutants collect in the atmosphere and absorb sunlight and solar radiation that have bounced off the earth’s surface. 

The causes of global warming are as follows:

1. Deforestation is an important reason for global warming. With the cutting down of trees, carbon dioxide absorption has reduced drastically, letting it remain in the air.

2. Industrial activities are also heavily responsible for global warming due to their excess release of greenhouse gases like carbon dioxide and methane into the air.

2.  What are the various ways of controlling water pollution?

Some of the ways of controlling water pollution are as follows:

1. Proper disposal of trash is necessary as many non-degradable items like diapers or plastics end up being flushed down toilets. This chokes up sewage systems and floats in rivers and seas.

2. Proper sewage treatment and maintenance are also vital. This will help limit the number of toxic substances like plastics from ending up in water bodies. 

3. Direct dumping of garbage into the water system has to be stopped. It allows harmful materials to float in these water bodies, polluting them. 

4. Conserving water can also help in avoiding water pollution. Conserving water diminishes the amount of contaminated water that needs to be treated.

5. During cleaning clothes, use a minimum amount of bleaches and detergents to ensure less contaminated water.

3. What is a cataract? How can it be treated?

A cataract is a medical condition whereby the naturally clear lens of the eye gets cloudy. Most cataracts develop over the years. Cataracts can be easily removed with the help of surgery. This is the process of removing the clouded lens and replacing it with a clear artificial lens. The artificial lens, also known as the Intraocular lens, is placed in the same position as the natural lens.

4. What is Iris? Write its functions.

Iris refers to the coloured tissue at the front of the eye that contains the pupil in its centre. Iris helps control the pupil’s size to let in more or less light into the eye as required.
