JEE Main April examination has been postponed till the last week of May due to the recent COVID-19 outbreak, as per the latest notification by the government. The exam was earlier scheduled to be held on April 5,7,9, and 11.
Mr Rameskh Pokhiryal Nishank, the Human Resource and Development (HRD) Minister has recently tweeted regarding the latest development of the postponement of the examination. He informed that the Joint Entrance examination or the JEE Main exam is now supposed to be held in the last week of May.
According to the notice issued by the National Testing Agency, the admit card for JEE Main exam will also be released post mid-April, which was earlier scheduled to be released on March 27.
The HRD Minister wrote in his tweet, “Since Parents and Students have to travel to different examination centres, to avoid any inconvenience to them, I have directed National Testing Agency to postpone NEET (UG) 2020 and JEE(Main) till last week of May.”
NTA has stated in the official notice, “We are hopeful that we would get back to normal situation relatively soon, but for now, various concerned ministries and examination boards are examining the scenario to evaluate the situation that may necessitate any change in the schedule.”
The conductor board of JEE Main exam also suggested the aspirants and the parents to keep a tab on the official website to know about the further updates. Although in case of any further changes in the JEE Main 2020 exam schedule, the aspirants and parents will be notified through emails and messages.
Earlier in a communique released by the Ministry of Human Resource Development (MHRD), the new dates were said to be announced on March 31 or later.
The ministry said in a statement: "Since JEE Mains may required travel by examinees to different towns and the dates may clash with rescheduled CBSE and other board exams therefore JEE Mains should be rescheduled and new date of JEE Mains will be announced on March 31, after re-assessment of situation.”
Amid this coronavirus pandemic, it was expected that the exam dates could be rescheduled. New exam dates will be announced on the official website of National Testing Agency (NTA), who is the official conductor of the JEE Main exam.
MHRD also stated: "While maintenance of academic calendars and exam schedule is important, equally important is the safety and security of the students who are appearing in various exams as also that of their teachers and parents.”
Not only JEE Main, the postponement of exams by the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE), National Institute of Open Schooling (NIOS) and universities have also been ordered by the ministry. The ongoing exams are said to be rescheduled after March 31.
However, NEET or the medical entrance examination for the undergraduate courses like MBBS and BDS has also been postponed to the last week of May which was supposed to be held on May 3, 2020.
