In a major blow to the candidates appearing for the Joint Entrance Examination (JEE) Main 2022, they will get only two attempts this year instead of four to crack the test, stated an official notification. The National Testing Agency (NTA) has scheduled the exams in April and May in 2022. As per the notification by NTA, the registration for the exam will begin at the end of February this year. However, the official dates for the exam are yet to be announced.

The NTA official cited Covid-19 as the primary reason for allowing four attempts for JEE Main in 2021. The official added, “Situation was different due to the second wave. However, things have improved and based on the current situation it has been decided that two attempts would be as beneficial. The registration will start by the end of this month.”

According to other sources, another reason for the decision was the delay in class 12 Board exams that reduced the time for entrance exams, which are responsible for the admissions at this time this year. NTA also asked the students to check the JEE Main 2022 exam date and registration process at JEE Main 2022 official website or at NTA website.

In the wake of the Covid-19 situation, earlier the Agency had also changed the JEE Main 2022 examination pattern to allow students to appear in the exam who might have studied the changed syllabus under different school boards.

Last year, the Ministry of Education, along with the NTA, had decided to increase the number of attempts to four from 2021 onwards, and four sessions of the national-level engineering entrance exam were conducted in February, March, April, and August-September. It accommodated more than 16 lakh candidates last year.
