About EWS
EWS or Economically Weaker Section is a category of people that do not belong to any of the reserved categories and have an annual income of less than 8 lakh rupees. That means any student who falls under SC ST or OBC category is not eligible for the EWS quota. The Government of India has provided this scheme for students with weaker Economic backgrounds so that they can avail good educational facilities.
Who is Eligible for EWS Quota in JEE 2024?
The following people can avail of EWS quota in JEE:
The family should have a gross annual income under Rs. 8 Lakh.
The candidate should not belong to any of the reservation categories such as
SC, ST and OBC
And the candidate should possess an ‘Income and Asset certificate’ issued by any government authority.
Who Cannot Avail of the EWS Quota?
Below are the conditions for which one cannot access the EWS benefits:
Any candidate whose family owns 5 acres or more agricultural land.
If the candidate owns a residential flat of 1000 square feet and above.
If candidates’ parents own any residential plot of 100 square yards and above.
If candidates’ parents own any residential plot of 200 square yards and above other than the one that is notified to the municipality.
Documents Required for EWS Category
For applying to the EWS quota for JEE, the candidate needs an ‘Income and Asset Certificate’. This certificate can be obtained from the following people:

Primary Features of Reservation Criteria for JEE Main 2024
Specific candidates to be granted the reserved seats will be determined by JEE Main scores. GoI has set specific guidelines for reservation criteria, which will be followed by the NTA (National Test Agency).
Reservation benefits will only be provided to those categories which will be officially issued by the Indian Government in the central list.

Persons with Disabilities (PwD) under JEE Main Reservation Criteria 2024

JEE Main Reservation Criteria in Institutes of National Importance
There are various institutes that take up admissions into engineering courses through JEE Main, and they have their own reservation criteria. Talking about the Institutes of national importance, given below are the JEE Main 2024 reservation criteria for such institutes:
Indian Institutes of Technology (IITs) - All the IITs run under the central government and they follow the AIQ while offering admissions into engineering courses.
Indian Institutes of Information Technology (IIITs) - Admissions into IITs rely on All India Quota, Home State Quota, and Other State Quotas.
Government Funded Technical Institutes (GFTIs) - For getting admissions into GIFTs, there is an All India Quota basis except for Birla Institute of Technology, Mesra, Ranchi and IIEST Shibpur.
However, candidates can claim for the home state quota and other state quotas in Assam University, Silchar, where the home state quota is applicable for candidates belonging to Assam and others on An India basis.
National Institutes of Technology (NITs) - National Institutes of Technology (NITs) offer engineering admissions as per State Quota and Other State Quota basis.
JEE Main Reservation Criteria 2024 For NITs
The National Institutes of Technology (NITs) provides admission to 50% seats to the Home State Quota students and for the remaining 50% seats to the Other State Quota students.
Note: For Union Territories and states which don't have NIT, the following NITs will be deemed as their state quota.
For NIT Goa and NIT Warangal, the JEE Main Reservation Criteria are mentioned below:
NIT Warangal:
Home State Quota – Applicants whose home state is Telangana can apply for admission under this reservation criteria.

NIT Goa:
Home State Quota – 40% of those students will be taken into consideration whose home quota state is Goa and in case, if there are any vacant seats, 10% seats will be given to students from Dadra & Nagar Haveli, Daman & Diu, and Lakshadweep.

The reservation criteria of JEE Main for women students are as mentioned below:
Almost all engineering colleges in India will have a reservation of a minimum of 5% seats for women. In order to claim this policy, JEE Main female aspirants should apply under this Quota System.
