General Details of JEE Advanced 2018

The JEE Advanced 2018 examination was conducted on May 20, 2018. It was a computer-based online test. The question paper covered three subjects namely Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics. Each of the subjects had a question paper divided into two parts: JEE Advanced 2018 paper 1 and JEE Advanced 2018 paper 2. The duration was 3 hours for each part. The questions include multiple-choice questions (MCQ), numerical problems, and matching list types.

 JEE Advanced 2018 Marking Scheme

The JEE Advanced 2018 exam paper had a total of 108 questions, divided evenly into three streams Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics, with 36 questions for each subject. Each of these 36 questions carries a total of 120 marks. So, the total marks in the question paper was 360 marks including all three sections. The questions were based on fundamental principles that required a clear understanding of concepts.

A total of +4 points were given for each correct answer in MCQ type, while a total of 2 points was deducted for each wrong answer. There were no marks obtained for questions not attempted. For numerical solutions, +3 marks were granted for each correct answer and there was no negative marking for an incorrect solution. For column matching questions, each correct answer gets +3 marks and for each wrong answer, 1 mark was deducted.

The questions were distributed according to Class 11 and Class 12 standards. The questions from Class 11 contained 44 questions carrying a total of 145 marks. There were 64 questions from Class 12 with a total of 215 marks. Therefore, the total marks for JEE Advanced 2018 were (145 + 215) = 360 marks.

JEE Main 2018 Overall Difficulty Analysis

The analysis of the difficulty level of the question paper revealed that the paper's overall difficulty level was moderate to tough. 37 questions can be considered moderately difficult while 40 questions were tough. The questions from the Chemistry section of the JEE Advanced 2018 question paper have a greater number of difficult questions whereas Physics and Mathematics were comparatively easy. Some of the Chemistry questions were also found outside the NCERT syllabus.

The number of boys qualified was 16062 and the number of qualified girls was 2076. The topmost ranker scored 337 marks out of 360 marks.
