Commerce is a vast field today and finding a course after Class 12th is not that difficult. There are plenty of career opportunities getting generated in this field. Hence students from Commerce background need not worry about their future. There are a lot of options available after high school. You can pick up the traditional courses like B.Com (Hons) or anything professional degree course like BBA etc. You can opt for courses that are not strictly related to commerce and finance but languages and arts. Bachelor of Commerce, be it Hons or pass, is a three-year degree course. This is one of the very popular options that most of the students from Commerce background opt for after completing their 10+2 level. Upon completion of B.com, students can opt for courses like M.com, MBA. Subjects that a B.com student will have to study during this course are Economics, Mathematics, Auditing, Statistics, Corporate Accounting, Income Tax, Human Resource Management, Business Communications, Banking and Insurance, Business Regulatory Framework, Business Environment, Management Accounting, Marketing, Entrepreneurship, etc.


  1. Chartered Accountant (CA)

CA which is referred to as Chartered Accountant is considered to be one of the toughest courses. But the career prospects are too high. This course is offered by the Institute of Chartered Accountants of India (ICAI) and it comprises several papers. The duration of this course is now 3.5 years. Earlier the duration of this course was 5.3 years. Subjects included in this course

are Accounting, Taxation, Auditing, Tax Laws, Economics, Business Laws, Corporate Laws, Financial Management, Business Communication, etc.


  1. Bachelor of Business Administration (BBA)

BBA which is referred to as Bachelor of Business Administration is a very popular professional degree course. The course duration is three years in total. After Class 12th, students can opt for BBA along with an integrated MBA course of 5 years duration. Many prestigious institutes offer this integrated programme. Besides B.com and CA, BBA is another popular course that students opt for after completing high school. Students gain a lot of industrial and corporate exposure through this programme alongside managerial and corporate skills.


  1. Company Secretary (CS)

Students from Commerce background who are looking to study something different can opt for CS or Company Secretaryship. People in this profession can find a great opportunity to work in various corporate companies. The duration of this course is 2.1 years. Candidates need to clear an entrance exam conducted by the respective authorities. This is one of the most popular career options amongst Class 12th passed outs. This will bring a very lucrative job opportunity for the students. However, students from other streams also can apply for this job.


  1. BSc. in Actuarial Science

Actuarial science may sound like a new subject. But it is not a new subject. It is gaining popularity nowadays. To study this subject, one needs to have knowledge of Mathematics, statistics, insurance, and investment. Any student from commerce background can opt for B.sc in Actuarial Science after 12th. There is a huge demand for the passed outs of this course abroad. Tasks performed by Actuary are product pricing, valuations, risk management, carrying out peer reviews, social security schemes designing etc. There are scopes for the actuary in India as well.
