Sandwich is one of the most common food items loved by almost everyone around the globe. It consists of two or more slices of bread with stuffing in between. This stuffing can be prepared with any sort of ingredients of your choice like potato, chicken, egg, vegetables, etc. Although bread is usually used as the covering in the preparation of most sandwiches, some even use buns and tortillas.
There are various types of sandwiches available, of which the Pinwheel Sandwiches have always been the favourite one among the children. The concept of the Pinwheel sandwich comes from the toy pinwheel, a fun-filled toy for children made up of colourful paper rolled in a leaflike manner and then loosely attached to a stick with the help of a pin, to make it revolve by the blow of wind. Let us now have a look at the Pinwheel sandwich recipes.
A Pinwheel sandwich for kids has always been a very delightful breakfast or evening snack item. Its colourful appearance lures children every time you serve it for breakfast or evening snacks. These sandwiches look like small wraps cut into rolls. Within each of these, the fillings are wrapped around tightly by tortillas or even bread slices, making them ideal for the little hands to hold. Here are the ingredients and step-wise recipe required to make a Pinwheel sandwich.
The following ingredients are required to prepare a veg Pinwheel sandwich:
Bread slices (as much as you need)
Jam (flavour as per your kid’s choice)
Mint leaves, coriander leaves, ginger slices, garlic slices, green chillies, lemon, cumin, salt, and roasted peanuts (for preparing Green Chutney)
Capsicum, cut into thin slices
Cabbage, shredded finely
Black Pepper Powder
Before going ahead with the Veg Pinwheel sandwich recipe, you need to prepare the Green Chutney and keep it ready to apply. Below is a step-wise representation of the recipe:
Take a blender jar and put some fresh mint leaves in it.
Put some coriander leaves in it.
Add cumin, roasted peanuts, ginger and garlic slices, lemon juice, and cumin.
Next pour some water and start blending. Add some more water as per your requirement.
Blend it until it becomes a smooth paste.
Once the green chutney is ready, the next step is to prepare the sandwich. Follow the steps below for the recipe:
Take 6 bread slices and cut out the crust from each of them.
To make the bread roll, you need to flatten the bread slices with the help of a rolling pin. Make sure to flatten each slice evenly.
Next, take a clean and dry surface and place the 3 of the bread slices on it very closely side by side.
Spread evenly 1 tea-spoon (tsp) of jam on the first slice, 1 tsp of mayonnaise on the second slice and 1 tsp of butter on the third slice. Apply these in such a manner, that the slices get stuck to each other by the corner.
Again, apply half a tsp of green chutney on the slice with butter and a cheese slice on each of the three bread slices. The green chutney will bring some tangy twist to the sandwich.
Place some finely chopped capsicum and shredded cabbage on top.
Add a pinch of salt and black pepper powder and then start rolling the slices carefully and tightly to give them the shape of a roll.
Now, wrap the roll in a plastic wrapper and refrigerate it for at least thirty minutes.
After thirty minutes, take the bread roll out of the freezer and unwrap the plastic wrapper. You’ll find the whole thing is now nicely stuck in a roll.
Take a sharp knife and cut thick slices out of the roll, and to your surprise, the colourful, sweet, and tangy Pinwheel sandwiches are ready.
The following ingredients are required to prepare a non-veg Pinwheel sandwich:
Mixed fruit jam
Green Chutney (recipe mentioned above)
Bell peppers, cut into thin slices
Onions, cut into thin slices
Chicken - 250 grams (need to be minced)
Black Pepper Powder
Kids love chicken any time of the day. So, adding minced chicken to a Pinwheel sandwich can make your child the happiest. The recipe is as follows:
Take 250 grams of freshly cut boneless chicken pieces and refrigerate it for 20 minutes. Remember that you do not want frozen chicken, hence take it out after 20 minutes.
Put the pieces in a blending jar. You may chop the chicken pieces into smaller sizes before putting them in the blender.
You may also add some lemon juice if lemons are available at home.
Blend it for 1 to 2 minutes until you get the desired minced texture.
Take a pan and put a tsp of butter in it. Heat the pan.
Put the minced chicken in it and toss it till it turns brownish.
Add a pinch of salt and black pepper to taste. Keep this chicken aside.
Once you’re ready with the minced chicken, the next process is to make the sandwich. Following are the steps for this recipe:
Take 6 slices of bread and extract the crust from each of them.
Using a rolling pin, flatten up the bread slices evenly.
Place 3 bread slices side by side on a clean and dry surface.
Spread 1 tsp each jam, mayonnaise, and butter on each of the three bread slices evenly.
Next, apply half a tsp of green chutney on the slice with butter and minced chicken on top of the bread slice with mayonnaise.
Place cheese slices on each of the three bread slices.
Put a few finely chopped bell peppers and onions on top. Spread some tomato ketchup on top of it.
Add a pinch of salt and black pepper powder and then place one bread slice on top of the other.
Roll the slices tightly in the form of a roll and press it from both ends.
Cut thick slices out of the bread roll using a knife and your chicken Pinwheel sandwiches are ready.
