Let us learn more about Brother’s Day in India - when is Brother’s Day observed, how to wish Brother’s Day, and the likes.

National Brother’s Day in India 2022 - Why and How to Celebrate

Why is Brother’s Day Celebrated?

Before understanding why Brother’s Day is celebrated, we need to learn a bit about the history of Brother’s Day. 24 May is celebrated as Brother’s Day since 2005. The exact details about the observation of this holiday are not known yet; however, this day was first celebrated and organised by C. Daniel Rhodes, belonging from Alabama. This day is primarily observed in the U.S. However, Asian countries like India also celebrate this day on the 24th of May, along with countries like Russia, Australia, France, and Germany.

The celebration of Brother’s Day is often thought to be inspired by some famous siblings. The following are the five most popular examples of brothers doing wonders around the globe:

1. Wilbur and Orville Wright

The very first duo that comes to mind when it’s about brothers is the Wright brothers bonding. The Wrights were self-taught engineers who hailed from Ohio. They had changed the entire ideation of transport by taking the world’s first controlled, motor-powered flight at Kitty Hawk in North Carolina. Although the flight spanned only 12 seconds, it embedded their names in the history of aeronautics.

2. Henry and William James

During the late 1800s and early 1900s, one of the most renowned novelists was Henry James, who wrote books like The Portrait of a Lady and The Turn of the Screw. His elder brother was William James, who was a well known American psychologist and philosopher. The masses considered him to be the father of American psychology.

3. The Sullivan Brothers

The Sullivan brothers were five brothers - George, Francis, Joseph, Albert, and Madison, who served in the US Navy. They died when the USS Juneau sank during World War II in 1942, fighting a naval battle. When their father was informed about the incident, he asked, “Which one?” and the lieutenant commander replied, “I’m sorry. All five.”

In the memory of the Sullivan Brothers, the U.S. War Department has established the Sole Survivor Policy, which is supposed to protect those who will lose family members in military service from pursuing combat duty.

4. John, Robert, and Ted Kennedy

The Kennedy brothers gained popularity through their powerful presence in U.S. politics. In 1961, John F. Kennedy became the president of the United States of America. His younger brother, Robert Kennedy, was elected as the Attorney General, and the youngest brother, Ted Kennedy, acquired a seat in the Senate in Massachusetts after a year.

5. The Bee Gees

Brothers Barry, Robin, and Maurice Gibb gave birth to the famous pop group, the Bee Gees. The Bee Gees have sold over 120 million records globally, becoming one of the world’s all-time best-selling artists. They were inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame in 1997 and were also presented with the award by Brian Wilson, who was the frontman of another famous family act called The Beach Boys.

Reasons to Show Your Brother Some Love

1. Brothers Understand you Better than Others

You may have people around you who care for you, love you, and know how you feel, but your brother, having spent so much time with you, will know exactly what’s bothering you when nobody else can. You can open up to your brother about things that you would otherwise have simply kept a secret, not wanting to share with others, not even your parents. A brother will give you some of the best advice you will have heard over a lifetime.

2. Brothers have Each Other’s Back

Brothers are always a team, no matter how much they fight at home or over silly disputes. When it comes to being protective, a brother will take on the world for you. He will not care about other relationships when the concern is your well-being. Your brother will always have your back, and you too should be his crutch when he’s down.

3. Brothers are for a Lifetime

No matter how many great friends you make or where you are, your relationship with your brother is a deal for life. This is not something you will be able to break or let go of that easy.

Conclusion

Make sure to show your gratitude, love, and appreciation for your brother this 24th of May by sending him a note stating how important he is in your life and how much you care for him. Also, don’t forget to mention that you got his back in whatever situation he is or will be in.
