Aluru Venkata Rao, a renowned Indian historian, and writer wanted to form the state of Karnataka through the Karnataka Ekikarana movement. In 1950, India became a republic country, and different provinces were formed based on languages, and this turned out to be the merger of all the Kannada-speaking localities of South India on November 1, 1956, to establish a Kannada-speaking state.
Initially, the newly-formed state was named Mysore but the name wasn’t accepted by some regions like North Karnataka. Finally, in the year 1973, the state of all Kannada was renamed Karnataka on1st November from the Kannada word “Karunadu” meaning “lofty land.”

The award, conferred by the State Government, was instituted in 1966 to recognize people in various fields such as agriculture, environment, education, journalism, judiciary, literature, etc. Karnataka day is a public holiday in the state, followed by a flag hoisting ceremony and address by the Chief Minister and the Governor of the State.
Ma Ramamurthy, son of well-known litterateur and freedom fighter Veerakesari Seetharama Shastri, was the first who formalized the idea of hoisting the yellow and red flag for Karnataka State. He was born in Nanjangud in 1918 and worked as an editor of a newspaper, “Kannada Yovajana”. During that time, non-Kannadigas were preferred in Karnataka which compelled academics and writers to protect the interests of the state.
He showed his opposition in the form of raising state flags that further signifies the symbol of identity. He created a yellow flag and red flag design in 1965. These colors demonstrate bravery and harmony. He used this initiative to represent the political party he founded, Kannada Paksha.

A red & yellow theme is selected to make everyone look traditional and deliver the vibes of brotherhood & harmony as these colors represent the Karnataka flag.
