The visuals are not only fantastic but mesmerizing, which is the reason why these theatres are so popular. But do you know how the movie is projected on huge screens? Well, it is with the help of a projector, of course. In this article, we are going to tell you how to make a projector at home without a magnifying glass

A Projector

Mobile phones are definitely useful when it comes to watching different TV shows and movies at home. However, the magical feeling of watching movies or videos using the projector is something else for sure. So, what if we tell you that now you can create your very own projector in order to have the best movie experience right in your own home? Yes, you can easily learn the method of making a projector at home for mobile phones. But before that happens, let us take a look at some details about the entire process.

What Exactly is a Projection?

The Science behind projection is really an age-old one. The term projection was basically first mentioned in the works of Plato, the Greek Philosopher. It was mentioned in his works related to the ‘Allegory of the Cave’ in which he properly conveyed everyday experiences to those of a particular group of prisoners in the cave in which the shadows are projected on the wall from the objects that are passing in front of the fire.

It is all thanks to Plato that people are now able to understand the concept of projection in the first place. Just like any other shadow that is projected on a surface, it is important to have a particular light source to create the projection. When an image is put in front of the source of light, a shadowy image will be seen on the screen or the wall in front of you. For those who want to know how to make a projector without a magnifying glass, this is definitely the right place to learn everything.

What are the Different Types of Projection?

There are two different types of projection that people will have to know about if they want to understand how the projector works in the first place. There is a front projection, and then there is a back or rear projection. With front projection, the light source is kept behind the viewer, and hence the screen is on the front side for the projection to work.

The main example of front projection would be cinema halls. In the case of back projection, the light source, as well as the screen, remains in front of the viewer, but the light is placed behind the screen.

For instance, when you tend to watch behind the scenes for different movies, you will notice that sometimes, the actors tend to face the camera, but behind them, there will be a screen with moving images. These images are actually cast using a projector that is placed behind the screen. Hence, you will not be able to see any particular light from the projector on the clothes and faces of the actors. While these are the basic principles that are behind the working of a projector, there are other complex projectors and models which have enabled people to watch things in greater detail.

So, if you are excited to learn how to make a projector with a magnifying glass or without it, this article is definitely going to be the best choice for sure.

How to Make a Projector: DIY Project For You

The things that you are going to need in order to create the projector are mentioned below. Make sure to collect these things and complete your DIY project in the best way.

  • Magnifying glass

  • A shoe box

  • Cello tape

  • Cutter

  • Glue

  • Cardboard sheets

  • Marker/pencil

  • Double-sided tape

Here are the steps that you need to follow in order to make your own projector for your mobile phone easily.

  1. Take your magnifying glass and remove the glass from the holder. You need to place the glass in the centre of the show box and use a marker to draw a circle around the show box.

  2. Use a cutter to cleanly cut the portion that was marked using the magnifying glass. You can also use a protractor for this job. Also, going hands-free is an option. So, now there is a cavity on one of the shoe box’s sides where you can fit the magnifying glass.

  3. Now, you can take your magnifying glass and add it to the cavity. Use duct tape or glue to fix the glass in its place.

  4. The next thing to do is to create a stand for the mobile phone. You will have to measure the space inside the box and understand the dimensions.

  5. Place two other cardboard sheets perpendicular to one another and have the longer edge stand out, running right along the middle of the board at the bottom. Now, you can apply some glue to the bottom edge and then press it until the board holds. Once the stand is created, place it inside your shoe box behind your magnifying glass.

  6. You need to position your show box so that it faces a wall. You also need to maximize the brightness of your mobile phone. Apart from that, the position of the mobile phone away or closer to the lens will determine the sharpness of the images.

  7. Once that is done, your projector is basically created. However, you will see that your images are upside down on the wall. This you can solve by keeping the orientation of the screen upside down and properly locking the screen mode. Your projector is completed.

So, this is how to make a projector at home without a magnifying glass. If you want to know how to make a projector using a bulb at home, the process is pretty much the same. Hence, you will have to make only a few minor changes to create your projector. So, go ahead and try it right now.
