The novel coronavirus or Covid-19 has shaken the whole world to its core since originating in the Wuhan region in China. The total number of confirmed cases has crossed 2,18,000 with the death toll around 9,000.

WHO has declared Covid-19 to be a pandemic and governments around the world are doing their best to contain its spread. With the number of confirmed coronavirus infection cases touching around 200, India too is adopting several preventive measures. Besides this, the Government of India is implementing several social distancing measures to stop the spread of coronavirus disease. These measures include –

  • Closing down schools, colleges, universities etc. and postponing examinations.

  • Closure of cultural and social centres, museums, theatres, swimming pools, gymnasiums.

  • Advising offices to conduct meetings if possible via video conferencing only.

  • Thermal screening at airports and before entering government buildings.

  • Asking restaurants to introduce proper handwashing protocol.

  • Asking private sector employers to allow their employees to work from home.

  • Asking sports organisers to postpone matches to avoid large gathering.

  • Citizens returning from high-risk areas are kept in quarantine for 14 days.

Also, on 19th March, PM Shri Narendra Modi asked the citizens of India to follow “Janta Karfu” on Sunday, 22nd March. This public curfew which shall last from 7 a.m. to 9 p.m. is aimed to contain the transimission of virus through communal spreads.

Since the coronavirus vaccine has not been developed yet, the preventive approach is the best way to reduce the risk of contamination. WHO or the World Health Organisation has listed several coronavirus prevention measures that one should implement in their day-to-day routine.  It will reduce the risk of getting infected by coronavirus. They are as follows –

  • The most important preventive measure that one can adopt is maintaining social distance. Maintain atleast 3 metres distance from someone who is exhibiting flu-like symptoms such as fever, coughing and sneezing.

  • One should make it a habit to wash their hands with soap and water for 90 seconds to kill the germs. You can also use a hand sanitiser containing above 60% alcohol to keep your hands virus-free.

  • If you have recently returned from a high-risk country or been in close vicinity with someone who has travelled recently and you are exhibiting symptoms similar to flu or the common cold, isolate yourself from others and get in contact with a medical practitioner. The early coronavirus symptoms include the following  –

  1. Body Ache

  2. Fatigue

  3. Fever

  4. Constant Sneezing and Coughing

  • To reduce the risk of catching Coronavirus infection, avoid shaking hands with the others for now and avoid touching your mouth, eyes and nose with unclean hands.

  • As per the World Health Organisation, coronavirus tends to stay active on surfaces for upto several hours. Therefore, it is of utmost importance, that one disinfects regularly used surfaces like laptops, keyboards, mobile screen, doorknobs with alcohol-based disinfectants.

Besides implementing the above methods, you should also stay informed about the latest coronavirus update and do not believe in myths and rumours that are doing the rounds.

The new coronavirus infection spreads through respiratory droplets which are released when someone sneezes or coughs and affects each individual differently. While some people may have a runny nose and a headache; others with pre-existing conditions are more severely affected. Therefore,if you are experiencing mild symptoms, you must isolate yourself to protect others around you.

In such a situation, as a parent, you must take adequate steps to keep your child out of harm’s way. The Government of India has already ordered the closure of educational institutes. However, it does not mean that your child’s education shall be hampered. Instead, you can introduce them to online education. If you don’t know already, there are several benefits of digital education. Some of them are as follows –

  • No Travelling, thus less Exposure to the Virus –Students can partake in online education from the safe confines of their homes. It eliminates the need for travelling to different areas in public transports and coming in contact with individuals who may be affected bythe newcoronavirus disease. Consequently, the chances of contracting Covid-19 also reduces. Additionally, it also enables the students to save a lot of time which they can dedicate to studying and thus make productive use of the additional time.

  • Resources–Online education centres like Vedantu furnish students with study materials for each topic, revision notes, previous years’ question papers, readymade solutions for reference purpose, etc. Students can easily access the aforementioned materials by downloading them in PDF format.

  • Better Information Retention – Online education platforms make use of various features like colour images, charts, videos to help students have a comprehensive and easy understanding of the topic in discussion. These features also enable one to remember the essential points about the topic better than traditional lectures with chalk and duster. Often in face-to-face classrooms, long lectures by teachers or professors cause boredom which forces students to lose focus. These online education centres also make use of fun features like quizzes which make learning more enjoyable.

  • Cost-Efficient –Online education is more cost-efficient than traditional education or coaching centres. The traditional education system involves a hefty fee structure which includes fees for the teachers and maintenance costs.  Additionally, in traditional coaching centres, you have to pay the fees regardless of whether your child is attending the classes or not. In online education sites, you pay as you go meaning you pay for only those classes that your kid is attending.
Nevertheless, Vedantu is now offering free access to all their live classes and study materials so that students can easily continue with their education during coronavirus infection threat.

  • Study Anytime and Anywhere – Online education is also more flexible than conventional classrooms. Different students have different learning habits. Some children are night owls while some are early risers. Online education allows students to be more flexible with their schedule and learn at their own pace & time. Additionally, students can also access online classes via gadgets like tablet, smartphone, laptops, all of which facilitate an internet connection.

  • Facilitates Interaction – Another benefit of online education centres is that they encourage students to interact with the teacher. Live interactive classes of Vedantu features a Q&A section where students can register their doubts with the concerned teacher which he/she clears after every class. This helps in creating a healthy learning environment. These online tutorials hire teachers who are expert in their field and have years of experience in dealing with students. Therefore, they can guide students properlyin their academic pursuits.
