CBSE has Announced Syllabus Changes for the Academic Year 2021-22

The CBSE Class 11th & 12th Syllabus 2020-21 has been reduced for several courses because of the COVID19 epidemic. Students preparing for the forthcoming CBSE Classes 11 & 12 examinations 2021-22 should study the CBSE Class 12th Syllabus 2021-22 thoroughly. Students may begin their CBSE Exam preparation by obtaining the CBSE class 11th & 12th science syllabus 2021-22. The usual routine has been severely disrupted as a result of the countrywide lockdown. With this in mind, CBSE authorities have rationalised the CBSE 11th Class Syllabus.

Science Class 12 Term 1 Exam Pattern & Timelines

Between November and December 2021, CBSE will conduct the Term I Exam on a flexible schedule. Multiple Choice Questions (MCQ) will be included in the Question Paper, including case-based MCQs and MCQs of the assertion-reasoning kind. CBSE 12th exams will be 90 minutes long. Students' replies will be recorded on OMR sheets, which may then be scanned and instantly uploaded to the CBSE portal, or they can be assessed and the results posted by the school the same day. The Board's Examination Unit will issue the final directive in this respect to schools. Students' ultimate total score will be determined by their performance on the Term I Examination as well as the Term II Examination. Question papers will be sent to Schools by CBSE Board along with the marking schemes.

Science Class 12 Term 2 Exam Pattern & Timelines

The CBSE will only administer the Term II or Year-end Examination based on the rationalized Term II syllabus (i.e. approximately 50 percent of the entire syllabus). Term II board examinations will be held in March-April 2022 at the Board's designated examination centres. The paper will be 2 hours long and will include case-based/situation-based, open-ended-short answer/long response questions. If the scenario does not allow for a traditional descriptive test, the board may also hold a 90-minute MCQ-based exam. The ultimate total score will be calculated by the results of the Term I & II Examination.

Details of Curriculum Transaction Class XI & XII

For the purposes of calculating total scores, the marks earned in the practical and internal assessments will be combined. Internal Assessment (throughout the year-irrespective of Term I and II) would include end of topic or unit tests/ exploratory activities/ practicals/ projects. Schools would create a student profile for all assessments undertaken over the year and retain the evidence in digital format. CBSE will facilitate schools to upload marks of Internal Assessment on the CBSE IT platform. Guidelines for Internal Assessment for all subjects will also be released along with the Assessment / Examination as per different situations:

  • In case the situation of the pandemic improves and students are able to come to schools or centres for taking the exams.
Board would conduct Term I and Term II examinations at schools/centres and the theory marks will be distributed equally between the two exams.

  • In case the situation of the pandemic forces complete closure of schools during November-December 2021, but Term II exams are held at schools or centres.
Term I MCQ based examination would be done by students online/offline from home - in this case, the weightage of this exam for the final score would be reduced, and the weightage of Term II exams will be increased for declaration of the final result.

  • In case the situation of the pandemic forces complete closure of schools during March-April 2022, but Term I exams are held at schools or centres.
Results would be based on the performance of students on Term I MCQ based examination and internal assessments. The weightage of marks of the Term I examination conducted by the Board will be increased to provide year-end results of candidates.

  • In case the situation of the pandemic forces complete closure of schools and Board conducted Term I and II exams are taken by the candidates from home in the session 2021-22.
Results would be computed on the basis of the Internal Assessment/Practical/Project Work and Theory marks of Term-I and II exams taken by the candidate from home in Class X / XII subject to the moderation or other measures to ensure validity and reliability of the assessment.
In all the above cases, data analysis of marks of students will be undertaken to ensure the integrity of internal assessments and home-based exams.

Rationalized Term Wise Divided Syllabus for the Session 2021-22

Vedantu offers CBSE Drishti and CBSE Sankalp classes for students in grades 11 and 12. Each Term's syllabus has been updated as per the announcements made by CBSE for curriculum change.   Weekly discussions are conducted for students.

Questions from the NCERT exercises that are important are discussed every week, there are two dedicated sessions for these conducted. Chapterwise assignment sheets having MCQs as per the new format are assigned to the students and discussed by the teachers. For each batch, revision lectures will be held throughout the term. Weekly exams for CBSE batches will be administered using the new MCQ format, which includes case, study-based and assertion-reasoning questions. Before the Term examinations, Mock tests based on the specified syllabus will be held.

FAQs on Changes in the Curriculum for Science Class 11 & 12

Q1. Will the change in CBSE curriculum effect NEET and JEE entrances?

Ans. The deletion in portions of Class 11 and 12 Science curriculum implies a shorter syllabus, thus reducing the burden on students in terms of studying. However, this also implies that students will be required to study extra when it comes to NEET and JEE. It is also important to note that most of the concepts in the Science curriculum are interlinked with one another, which confers a disadvantage when students try to understand a particular concept without knowing its counterpart. So, while the reduction in the CBSE Science curriculum does not appear to have an effect on NEET and JEE on the surface, it does so on a more substantial level.

Q2. Which is the best curriculum online for JEE coaching?

Ans. Various online platforms offer JEE curriculum coaching, but if you have to choose, why not opt for the best with Vedantu’s JEE prep classes. Q3. Do I need to pass in Term 1 exam to appear in Term 2 exam in Class XII with the change in exam pattern?

Ans. Yes, it is absolutely necessary to pass in Term 1 and Term 2 of the CBSE Class XII, as both the term-end examinations carry significant weightage in the overall result evaluation. In addition to this, students must also take care to ensure that they are regular and are performing well in their periodicals and internal assessments, as all of these will be considered for the calculation of Class XII results.

Q4. Is there a correlation of result of class XI for Class XII results?

Ans. It is very important to note that Class XI results are as important as Class XII. As it has been recently witnessed that CBSE has made use of Class XI marks for the allotment of Class XII Board result 2021, students must take care to perform well in either standard.

Q5. Which is the best curriculum online for NEET Coaching?

Ans. If you are looking for online NEET Coaching, then Vedantu is the perfect platform to opt for the same. Vedantu’s NEET curriculum, such as NEET Biotonic, study material and the crash course, will serve as the perfect platform for students to prepare for the national-level medical entrance exams.
