RD Sharma Class 8 Solutions Chapter 7 - Factorization (Ex 7.1)

Introduction

RD Sharma Class 8 Chapter 7  Factorisation is provided here. This chapter has included examples based on the topic of factorisation to solve real-life problems. In this chapter, students will understand the meaning and the concept of factors. This chapter mainly deals with the methods of factorisation. In this chapter, we will be learning the factorisation of big expressions utilising various methods in detail.

Some of the Important Topics which have been Discussed in this Chapter:

  • What is Factorisation?

  • Method of Common Factors

  • Factorization by Regrouping Terms

  • Factorization Using Identities

  • Factors of the form (x+a)(x+b)

  • Division of Algebraic Expressions

  • Finding the Error

What is Factorisation?

The process of representing an expression in the form of a product of two factors is called factorisation. The factors may either be of the variables or numbers or algebraic expressions themselves.

Let's see the different methods available to find factors of an expression.

Method of Common Factors

The first method of finding factors for any given expression is the method of common factors. Here, the expression can be expressed in the form of the product of terms.

Factorization by Regrouping Terms

This is another process of factorization. We will take a term as common and consider it as a common factor while finding the factors of the given expression. This is done by the forming of two groups.

For example,

7x − 14y

= 7x − (7 × 2)y

= 7(x − 2y)(taking 7 as common)

Factorization Using Identities

The third method of factorization involves using common algebraic identities.

Factors of the Form (x+a)(x+b)

This is another method of finding factors. This method is usually used when an expression doesn't have perfect squares. Though it is used usually for perfect squares, we can use this method to get factors of expressions without perfect squares too.

Division of Algebraic Expressions

This is an advanced concept in factorization. As the students have learned addition, subtraction, multiplication of algebraic expressions, now let us learn how to divide two or more expressions.

It includes the following topics:

  • Division of a monomial by another monomial.

  • Division of polynomials by monomials.

Finding the Error

This section includes the correction of errors in the expressions. Here, we make the right-hand side terms and left-hand side terms equal. This process is also known as verification. Using this equalisation process, we can correct the errors in the expressions.

FAQs on RD Sharma Class 8 Solutions Chapter 7 - Factorization (Ex 7.1) Exercise 7.1

1. What are the main topics discussed here?

The important topics which have been discussed here are as follows:

  • What is Factorisation?

  • Method of Common Factors

  • Factorization by Regrouping Terms

  • Factorization Using Identities

  • Factors of the form (x+a)(x+b)

  • Division of Algebraic Expressions

  • Finding the Error

2. What is factorisation?

It is very important for students to understand what factorisation means and to learn how to factorise a given expression.

In order to describe factorisation, we could say:

When we break down a number into smaller numbers that, multiplied together, give you that original number it is called factorization. The smaller numbers are called the factors. It is crucial for students to clearly understand this to solve RD Sharma Class 8 Chapter 7 - Factorization easily.

3. What are the different methods of factorisation?

There are many different methods of finding factors to an expression. The different methods for factorising expressions which have been discussed in RD Sharma Class 8 Solutions Chapter 7 - Factorization is:

  • Method of Common Factors

  • Factorization by Regrouping Terms

  • Factorization Using Identities

  • Factors of the form (x+a)(x+b)

Students must learn all the methods to solve the questions in RD Sharma Class 8 Chapter 7 - Factorization smoothly.

4. What is an irreducible factor?

While solving questions on RD Sharma Class 8 Chapter 7 - Factorization students must have come across expressions that could not be expressed as a product of other factors. They might have wondered what they are actually called. Some might not have noticed them at all.

Well, there is a specific term for such factors. They are called irreducible factors.

Thus,  we can say:

A factor that cannot be expressed as a product of other factors is called an irreducible factor.
